15 Puerto Rico to Antigua

This was our second 4 day sail, into the east winds. By now we had become somewhat used to life at sea. Cathie had prepped some meals, We were comfortable with our watch schedule of 3-4 hours on/off, sleeping when ever you were off, as the tiredness would catch up after a few days. Another thing we did was keep a log, recording hourly the Time of day, Fuel level, Water level, Speed over ground, Course over ground, Distance to destination, Apparent wind angle, Apparent wind speed, and True wind direction. Some of this just kept us awake, but the numbers were very useful for checking back and monitoring our progress, fuel burn, and sailing skills.

It turned out to be another 4+ day sail to make Antigua, and we were very happy to make Antigua. We arrived about 3:30 pm, and were able to check in before the customs office closed. Then off to a nice anchorage to relax.

After a few days we moved to English harbour, which was very nice. There’s lots of old cannons, anchors and historic rock fortress buildings here. Great beach for swimming, Sequoia really liked that. We also rented a car and explored the island. Stay left was my main focus, as down here you drive on the left side of the road. We also took Sequoia in for a veterinary certificate of health in order to leave Antigua as well as for entering Grenada.
