9 Hope Town to Lynyard Cay

This was just a 20 nm trip that would set us up for the trip to the Exumas. After visiting Hope Town in the morning we were back on Catnip, anchor up, followed shortly by sails up.

It was a great sail to Lynyard Cay, and we anchored in for the night, under the stars with a nice sea breeze, yea, kind of the new norm. 😁.

In the morning we could see the breakers at the cut we would be going through to start the next leg of our adventure. There was a lot of white water and it did look intimidating so best we stay at anchor a little longer.

The following day on our AIS we spotted a vessel heading towards the cut. We watched closely and yes, she is heading through the cut. Binoculars out right away and we were watching closely. Ahh, there she is. We were about 1 mile away, 5 feet above sea level, so not the best view. We could see her bow and stern going up and down, their mast pointed in every direction…except down. After a few minutes the action settled down, and they came in to anchor near us.

It didn’t take long to go over in the tender and visit them. Great couple, from Europe, had a real pleasant 3-4 day passage and said the cut wasn’t tooo bad. No, that’s not a typo. They said it was just rough, but if the helmsman keeps the vessel on the course line, watching the chart, the other person can provide guidance, encouragement and advice. When you’re at the helm it’s full on, you don’t really want to gaze around too much, so having a second set of eyes really helps.

It was fine, not smooth, but nothing Catnip couldn’t handle. Plus the decks needed a good wash. After a few minutes it was done, we were in the big blue and ready to head towards the Exumas.
