Not to take anything away from our two week, 120 km. canoe trips, but can you imagine rowing 4600 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean. Now to be fare, they didn’t have portages.
People do this every year, in what’s called “The world’s toughest row”. They start in the Canary Islands and finish in Nelson’s boat yard, Antigua where we were anchored a few days ago. There’s teams of two, three, four and solo rowers. Male, female and mixed teams. 42 teams in all this year.
We were lucky enough to see the first couple boats come in. They consisted of four strong men, and made the trip in just over 31 days. Everyone comes out to greet and cheer them on as they finish. It gave me goosebumps.

Here’s a photo of the first two boats. They have three sets of oars, looks like star link, solar, not sure what they do for water.

There’s dry areas at the bow and stern, for cooking and sleeping, looks like some water tight compartments on the side, and jack lines to strap into so nobody falls out. The guys we saw finish looked like they were still good friends, I imagine friends for life.
After weighing out the options and several discussions, Cathie and I have decided to stick with our catamaran, Catnip.
